About Girlfriend Collective

Price Range: $78

Girlfriend Collective is a girl’s best friend for eco-friendly sportswear, swimwear, and sleepwear.

Whether you put their women’s recycled sweatpants to use as sustainable activewear or Stranger-Things-addict-wear, they’ll keep our planet comfy.

They also offer a smaller range for men.

Made with an equal mix of organic and recycled cotton, their wide-leg sweats or joggers are affordable, adjustable, and available in 14 different colors.

Girlfriend Collective’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

All of Girlfriend Collective’s lounge-ready line is made with a 50/50 blend of Texloop RCOT™ recycled cotton and organic cotton—making them 100% biodegradable.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Girlfriend Collective’s clothes are manufactured mostly in Vietnam, in a factory that guarantees fair wages and safe working conditions. Workers receive free lunches, exercise breaks, and free health checkups.

All partner factories have certifications like WRAP and SA8000.

Green business practices:

Instead of going to a landfill, the dye mud produced during the dyeing process is given to a pavement facility, where it’s turned into roads and sidewalks.

All wastewater is sent to a treatment plant just 100 feet away instead of being discharged into the environment.

Their packaging is 100% recycled and recyclable.

Send back your preloved GC garments through ReGirlfriend and they’ll be recycled into new gear—while providing you with a $15 store credit.

Inclusivity:

If you’re looking for plus-size ethical sweatpants, GF’s come in sizes XXS-6XL.

Boody

Boody has not been rated.

About Boody

Price Range: $60–$76

For family-owned Australian sustainable jogger brand Boody, comfort and sustainability are priorities.

Their solution?

Bamboo yarn, which they use to make some of our favorite ethical underwear, socks, activewear, bamboo pajamas, and a close cousin of sweatpants—sustainable leggings.

They have a small but versatile selection of women’s eco sweatpants including the Downtime Lounge Pant featuring a flattering relaxed fit and tapered leg. The men’s equivalent is the Cuffed Sleep Pant.

Boody’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Cozy and comfortable, the luxurious feel in these sweatpants is thanks to the jersey-style viscose made from organic bamboo (blended with 5% elastane).

While seeing bamboo fabric on a label sometimes makes us sweat, Boody puts us at ease by making theirs through a closed-loop process that recycles liquids and solvents.

The responsibly sourced materials come from FSC-certified forests, are certified organic by Ecocert, non-toxic by OEKO-TEX and ISO 9001, and PETA-approved vegan-friendly.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Boody’s manufacturing partners adhere to ethical workplace compliance standards.

This means no forced or child labor, no harassment and abuse, fair wages, and appropriate work hours.

Green business practices:

Boody’s packaging (which consists of biodegradable bags and recycled boxes printed in vegetable inks) is SGS tested for toxins just like their garments.

Garments are knitted in tubes, which minimizes waste compared to traditional cut-and-sew methods.

Inclusivity:

Sizes XXS-XL are available, fitting up to a US size 14.

About Outerknown

Price Range: $118–$268

Started by professional surfer, Kelly Slater, Outerknown has a deep respect for our oceans, our people, and our planet.

As for conscious comfiness, the Australian brand knows a thing or two.

In addition to sustainable streetwear and swimwear, they’ve also got couchwear(?) in the form of unisex, women’s, and men’s ethical sweatpants.

You can help ensure high tides aren’t because of melting polar ice caps with the Hightide Sweatpants, which blend purely organic eco-friendly materials with recycled ones.

Outerknown’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

You may feel lazy in a pair of Fair Trade joggers from Outerknown, but they certainly weren’t lazy when sourcing the most sustainable materials.

They use a range of natural and recycled fabrics throughout their range including hemp, Merino wool, recycled cashmere, organic cotton, and recycled polyester (from plastic bottles).

Some contain ~15% spandex, which we’d avoid.

Supply chain & labor practices:

You can cuddle up knowing that Outerknown works with Fair Trade USA to ensure safe and fair working conditions for its factory workers in Peru, Mexico, and China.

They’ve supported more than 7,000 workers and were the first brand to officially be accredited by the Fair Labor Association—even before they shipped their first product!

Through the Outerworn resale platform, the brand has kept more than 1,300 preloved garments out of landfills.

There’s more to come.

Their 2030 Sustainability Roadmap includes further efforts to protect worker rights, use circular economy practices, and help supply chain partners transition to renewable energy systems.

Inclusivity:

Who wants a really tight pair of eco joggers?

No one.

While plenty of people will be able to cozy up in Outerknown’s S-XL sweats, we think their overall size range would benefit from a little expansion. Sustainable men’s swimwear with a bit of room? We’re on board!

Price Range: $98–$138

Amour Vert means “green love” and the brand epitomizes what it means to be effortlessly sustainable.

For luxurious lounge-worthy joggers, they’re also one of the best brands to turn to for women’s sweatpants.

Amour Vert’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

Amour Vert’s sustainable joggers are made with semi-synthetic cupro fabric—a material that makes use of recycled cotton.

Other pairs are made with TENCEL™ modal (this fabric’s most eco-friendly version), made from sustainably harvested beech trees.

Patagonia

Patagonia has not been rated.

About Patagonia

Price Range: $89–$129

Patagonia was the first sustainable outdoor clothing brand—and it remains one of the best.

Between outdoor gear, ethical winter coats, and everything in between, they’re one of the greenest go-to companies.

Well suited for outdoor activewear or something a little more indoorsy (like yet another episode of your favorite binge show), they have Fair Trade sweatpants for women, men, kids, and babies.

Whether you’re roaming the globe or just roaming to the fridge for a snack, the Organic Cotton Roaming Cargo Pants are versatile and V-cozy.

Patagonia’s Ethical & Sustainability Practices

Materials:

You can be a couch potato combating climate change with Patagonia, as most of their sweats are made with regenerative organic cotton.

It’s often blended with other eco-friendly materials, like recycled polyester made from plastic bottles or other recycled fabrics, like repurposed fleece scraps.

You’ll also find some entirely recycled polyester sweatpants.

Their non-toxic dyes are PVC and phthalate-free.

Supply chain & labor practices:

Sewn in a Fair Trade factory (along with 87% of their line), your lazy days in sweats can do a whole lot of good for workers who earn a premium for their labor.

As of last year, 39% of their factory workers receive a living wage (a percentage that’s steadily increasing).

Patagonia’s Footprint Chronicles section of each page details where every product is milled and made.

Green business practices:

“Environmental sustainability” is Patagonia’s middle name.

They don’t just recycle fabrics and bottles (now in 87% of their line), but whole garments—to the tune of more than 100,000 a year!

If you have any unwanted Patagonia pieces, they’ll buy them back, repair them if needed, and resell them via their Worn Wear program.

They’re also working to develop the world’s first certification for regenerative agriculture.

Inclusivity:

Their affordable eco-friendly sweatpants are designed to fit most people. Sizes XS-XXL are available.

Community & charitable giving:

Patagonia actually started 1% for the Planet, but that seems like a drop in the ocean considering that “Earth is [their] only shareholder”.

The company is now owned by the Patagonia Purpose Trust and the Holdfast Collective, two environmental non-profits.

Not only can you support their efforts, but they support yours by making it easy to find ways to get involved near you via their Action Works tool.
